'Uncertainty'

Song image
Song story and background information

'Uncertainty' is a song that ponders on whether a life of commitment is any less rewarding than one of hedonism. The character in the song is looking back at a life of carefree fun in a run down suburb, and - although enjoying that way of life - wonders if settling down with someone will provide more security and "a chance to feel desired". The song also looks back at past times and events as friends and associates get married and begin to move into middle age, reflecting on what could have been achieved with more determination. It's a song detailing what you could call a 'pre-mid life crisis', which many people go through as they reach their late twenties, perhaps, and begin to think more about family and the future.

Features on the album 'Thoughts Of Doubt'.

Lyrics
It seemed so clear: just let it pass me by
Live for the day - any chances stay denied
My day-to-day soon becomes a way of life
But I'd give the world just for something else tonight

I deserve much more than this, it's easy to just let it rest
I guess it's up to me to make my way up from the doldrums

I'll tell myself it's the mood I'm in;
It's the people here that I can't forgive
My uncertainty is the death of me
Do I stay this way or will you let me free?

I've lived my life always as a hedonist
I'm starting to think of all that I have missed

p>What about commitment and a chance to feel desired?
Oh I'm sure you feel the same way but you don't want to admit it

I know myself, perhaps far too well
It's this town I'm in: just an urban hell
My uncertainty is never good to me
I'd be good to you if you would just let me

Well, time's running out
There's no one about
They've all left me now
Will you tell me how?

I know you feel the same way, so why won't you just admit it?

I'll tell myself it's the mood I'm in;
It's the people here that I can't forgive
My uncertainty is the death of me
Do I stay this way or will you let me free?
I kick myself because I'm too laid back
I'd assert myself, but I have lost the knack
Uncertainty is my enemy
But with you with me think what we could achieve
