'Excuses (Edit)'

Song story and background information

Trust No One's second MP3 Virtual Single. 'Excuses' is a subtle and somewhat ambiguous critique on the so-called "class war", with an unnamed person (perhaps a politician?) being lambasted for abuses of power and taking supposedly "lesser" people for granted. The song evolved from the underlying slide guitar and shuffling rhythms, with the track sounding not dissimilar to Underworld. This edited version of 'Excuses' featured on MP3.Com's syndicated Chartbound Show in 2001, broadcasting across America on many local pop radio stations. 'Excuses (Edit)' can also be found on Trust No One's 2004 'Tempo Changes' promotional CD Sampler.

Lyrics
I've had enough of covering for you
Listen to me: I'll tell you what to do
Make a new life that's far away from me
Somewhere that you can lie easily
People won't know you, people won't care
People won't listen; they're not aware
Then you will learn that you are nothing
You just don't matter in my big scheme

No more excuses
"No more"; what you said
No more excuses
No more excuses

Have you had enough now?  Do you realize?
It's not what you say it's the blood in your eyes
You're better than me, well that's what you claim
But who really is free at the end of the day?
You've got bank accounts that could buy all Mars
An I.Q. level that hits the stars
But what do you know about life and death?
When the years have gone you'll have nothing left
Just a floor to hit with a mighty drop
You'll be a bag of bones with the head cut off
Surely you see an inferior complex is a lot safer than a superior one

No more excuses
"No more"; what you said
No more excuses
No more excuses

I've had enough of covering for you
Listen to me: I'll tell you what to do
Make a new life that's far away from me
Somewhere that you can lie easily

No more excuses
"No more"; what you said
No more excuses
No more excuses
